Since ancient times, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have understood that everything in the natural world is connected. Our artwork represents this special relationship of our First Nations people to Country, from the highest point of the skies to the deepest part in the oceans and everything in between. They developed an incredible knowledge of how to use the skies to understand the seasons, weather and tides and to use this science to navigate, find food and protect themselves and the environment. This has been passed on to generations through culture and traditions of art, song, dance and dreaming stories. There is so much to learn if you take the time to connect to the environment and to each other.
Reconciliation means…
Understanding each other so that we can build a better future together. It is important to give everyone a voice and to take time to listen carefully to what they know, what they feel, what they need and what they want. To make improvements you have to understand what has already happened, from everyone’s point of view, and work out where and how things can be done better and then do it. You should keep trying together, to improve all the time. Even when you think everything is okay, there is more that can make it even better.

Year 6
